A Hemming Party

The other night, Joscelyn Katie and I had our first-ever hemming party!

Katie is a bridesmaid for a friend's upcomming wedding, and the dress is just a leetle too long for her. We thought that while we were at it, why not mark all the hems that have been waiting? I always come to a halt after sewing a skirt, because then I need to find someone to mark the hem before I can finish. So we all took turns standing on the table, and marked four skirts that night! We didn't have time to sew them up then, unfortunately.

This bridesmaid dress is going to be a challenge for me... three layers of super-fine slippery slinky fabric to hem. yikes! Thank goodness it's not a very full skirt!

Just in case you were wondering, no, we do not use a yardstick for the marking! We actually have a very nifty tool from my Grandma that makes it very easy. It has a ruler standing up in a base, with a clip that slides up and down to whatever height on the ruler you like. It holds the fabric in the clip, and has a slot to slip a pin in. IF the victim person is standing still, the pins line up perfectly all around the skirt. I'll have to try to get a picture sometime. I haven't seen anything like it to buy in stores.

May it please the supreme and divine Goodness to give us all abundant grace
ever to know His most holy will and perfectly to fulfill it.
