It Has Returned

The Civil War ballgown has rematerialized!

          Over the 4th of July weekend, I re-did the back opening and added jump rings for lacing it up. I originally planned on hand-sewing eyelets through the fabric, but rings will make it more adjustable, and were much quicker to sew.

          Kati laced it up for me last week and it was incredible to see the bodice almost finished! I've been thinking of it for several years, and now I've been sewing it for over a year.

You can barely see it here, but the top and bottom edges have been finished with piping.

          As for the skirt, I did the cartridge pleats in the back section! Pleating the whole skirt may take quite a while, since I only have an odd hour here or there for sewing. After the pleating, the skirt will be firmly sewn to a waistband, which will be basted to the bodice.
