As I said in my last post:
There are very few perks to working retail in a bad economy, yet they do exist. One of them is that you occasionally get a full Saturday off, so this weekend I went Ceili and swing dancing, which included a Lindy Hop workshop. Yay for last minute plans and 8 hours of dancing!
{ ceili post here }
After the Ceili I met some friends for dinner and headed to the Lindy workshop, where we learned the most basic Lindy step. Swing dancing has been more of a hit-and-miss with whether I really enjoy it or not, but this night was fantastic. I was ready for a night of dancing, went with fun friends, and danced with many very good dancers. During the ordinary/open swing dance that evening, most of my partners chose to dance the standard East Coast style, so I hardly had a chance to practice the Lindy that I had learned.
After a while, I asked one of my partners to do some Lindy while we danced to see if I could keep up with him. I was pretty sure of myself.
Then, between spinning me in, out, left and right, he asked if I realized that, so far as he knew, every time we have ever danced (which isn't that many times), we had been doing Lindy.
Including right then.

*speechless in embarrassment*
Then I had to remind him how little I have ever formally been taught. I mostly just try to follow until I start to put the patterns together and can start to 'understand' the feel of it. :-D
So this is Lindy? I felt so ridiculous for not having recognized it! It was so obvious! It will be good to take the lessons and learn to do it correctly if I get another chance, but...

For your viewing pleasure: my favorite youtube swing routine. I love watching this couple; they make the dancing so fun, casual, and effortless. This dance, to Moses Supposes, is particularly cute! They're not doing Lindy hop, but Jitterbug, which I think is the same as East Coast style.
And as a bonus: this video of the Nicholas Brothers when they were very young, which I found through searching for dance videos. I like it better than any of the fancier routines from when they were older!
